I wanted to write a romantic mystery story about a rodeo rider. Partly because I love writing contemporary mystery novels, but mainly because I just knew my idea was a darn good one. I had an idea in my head that I knew would create a ton of suspense, but I needed to do more research about the business of rodeo and the riders.
We were heading over to America for a writer’s conference in a bid for me to write the best romance suspense novels out there. While we were over we were taking some time to meet with my brother in law, who lives in America and incidentally had a stint riding in rodeos.
So, off we went out on to the swamps one day looking for fish and we spent some time chatting about all things rodeo as well as my idea of working this into a contemporary romance novel. It was a great insight and one that was invaluable when I was putting together Tommy and his life.
But, as if that wasn’t good enough, we also got to go to the PBR finals in Vegas while we were on our trip. Here’s a shot of me and the hubby just before we went in. There was so much entertainment there, if we’d known we would have arrived earlier.
More to the point though, I was hooked then and I’m so disappointed because we don’t get to see it in the UK on any of the Sky Sports channels so I’ll have to wait until I’m out there next time to go again.
Down in the Well is the first in the Rodeo series. Even though I have an idea of what is going to happen in the next book, it can be read as a standalone, so don’t delay. Buy Down in the Well here.
