I’ve been employed to look after Nassim, the most sickening criminal to walk the globe. He’s not the kind of guy whose best interests I hold close, but his daughter is a different matter. When she disembarked that plane, she brought a color to my future that I wasn’t ready to see.
I left the UAK with a mission that didn’t involve falling in love with a highly unsuitable close protection officer. But, that’s what I did.
As soon as Errol and I were close, my world ignited with an electricity that shook my core. The idea of abandoning that connection cracked my newfound confidence — it was only then that I recognized that gracious giant’s influence.
Shame I didn’t listen. Instead I went ahead with rolling out my plan. Except that once my heart was in control, anything could happen.

Prologue – Errol
JAMAICA – WHEN I WAS A BOY OF EIGHT
The day everything changed.
No matter how hard I try, and I do try until I’m sure my skinny arms will pop out of my shoulder joints, I’m locked into their grasp. The three boys are heftier than I am. They’re the same age as Llewellyn, my brother, and although the bones being snapped are his, the pain sears through my own ribs.
The bigger boys are shrieking with glee, taking turns to slam another foot into his chest. Llewellyn lies on the floor, his hands too small to protect him from their barrage.
“Go on, cry, you baby,” one of them taunts as I gasp, biting back childish tears of my own. I’m not sure whether their ridicule is intended for me or my brother. Or both.
My lungs are on fire from the force of my unheard screams. I pray in vain that someone, anyone, will hear them and intervene.
“Leave him alone,” I scream, unable to move from where I’m pinned, arms behind my back, as they lay another boot into Llewellyn’s face this time. His neck snaps as he lies in the fetal position, waiting out their onslaught.
